Jay Ullal

The photographer Jay Ullal was born in Mangalore, in the Indian state of Karnataka. He began his career as a cameraman in Bombay and in 1958 switched to the ”Times of India“. In 1963 he went to Hamburg to work as a photographer for the magazine ”Costanze“. He was then hired by the magazine ”Stern“ in 1970. In 1998 Jay Ullal was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit. His portraits of Indira Ghandi, Willy Brandt, Yassir Arafat, the Dalai Lama, and many others are legendary.
